Graduate Assistantship in Applied Aviation Research (Purdue University)
[Update: Application is now closed as of February 1, 2022]
Researchers from the School of Aviation and Transportation Technology (SATT) at Purdue University are looking for a prospective doctoral student to join our research team in August 2022 to work on an interdisciplinary project while pursuing a Ph.D. This project combines machine learning methods and data analytics and aims to advance applied aviation research to a higher level.
The successful candidate will be funded by the Purdue Polytechnic Research Impact Area (RIA) Graduate Research Assistantship (GRA) during the 2022-2023 academic year. This funding could be renewed during the 2023-2024 academic year, subject to a performance review at the end of the first academic year. Funding beyond the first two years is possible in the form of GRA or Graduate Teaching Assistantship (GTA) at SATT. The graduate assistantship will provide a 9-month stipend, tuition waiver, and benefits in each academic year.
The student will join the cohort of SATT graduate students and have abundant opportunities to interact and collaborate with students and faculty members across campus and outside Purdue University. Graduate students of SATT actively participate in real-world problem-solving, instruct in a classroom setting, present in international conferences, and publish in top research journals. After completing the Ph.D. study, students typically find employment in academia, airlines, airports, aviation consulting firms, international organizations, and government agencies.
We are looking for a student who:
· Currently has a master’s degree, or is expected to be awarded one by August 2022, in aviation, science, engineering, economics, or a closely related discipline.
· Has coding experience (any programing language) and sound knowledge in statistics.
· Has a passion for aviation. (Frankly, who doesn’t?)
· Is motivated to acquire new knowledge and skills.
· Enjoys working in a team with diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
· Meets the admission requirements of the Graduate School.
If you are interested in this opportunity and meet the requirements described above, please send your 1). up-to-date resume/CV, 2). academic transcripts (both undergraduate and graduate), and 3). Statement of Purpose (limit to 2 pages) to Dr. Yi Gao (the Principal Investigator) at yigao@purdue.edu by January 31, 2022. The selected student will later apply online to the Graduate School and enroll in the School of Aviation and Transportation Technology at Purdue University.
